Hurlingham Club

In 2016 JB Associates worked with ES Connect and David Morley Architects to create a new indoor racquet centre for the London based Hurlingham Club.

The private members club is recognised as one of England’s greatest, and it boasts 42 acres of ‘magnificent ground’. Quintessentially British, the club also claims it ‘continually looks at ways in which it can improve’.

Therefore, the Racquet Centre became a project to continue developing the numerous facilities offered at Hurlingham, and the third phase of the expansion of their sports and leisure department.

This phase included the construction of eight new tennis and squash courts, as well as a multi-use games area (MUGA) within the new Racquet Centre. Designed as a sustainable structure that makes use of natural light, the vaulted roof was finished with a sedum grass in order to blend in with natural surroundings.

As commercial managers for the project, JB Associates provided the M&E contractor with post-contract quantity surveying support including valuations, variations and final account preparation and negotiation. Extension of time and prolongation negotiations and substantiation were also undertaken.

The official opening of the centre was attended by former British no. 1 Tim Henman in January 2016. A year later, The Hurlingham Club Racquet Centre was shortlisted for the Structural Steel Design Awards.
